Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 188 CHAPTER 200 Relative to Electronic Dance Music Month. [ Filed with Secretary of State August 24, 2026. ] LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SCR 188, Pérez. Electronic Dance Music Month. This measure would declare the month of June 2026 as Electronic Dance Music Month. Digest Key Fiscal Committee: NO Bill Text WHEREAS, Electronic dance music, or “EDM,” traces its roots back to the 1970s with the rise of disco and the innovative use of synthesizers in popular music; and WHEREAS, EDM encompasses a wide array of subgenres, including, but not limited to, disco, synthpop, techno, house, trance, drum and bass, dubstep, trap, hardstyle, and many more; and WHEREAS, EDM is a vibrant and inclusive musical form that brings people of all backgrounds together on the dance floor; and WHEREAS, EDM concerts are dynamic gatherings where the music, lights, and community come together in celebration; and WHEREAS, Attendees of these events are the heart of the EDM movement, and are known for their passion, creativity, and expressive fashion; and WHEREAS, EDM culture is rooted in the core values of Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect, commonly abbreviated as “PLUR”; and WHEREAS, Peace represents the elimination of conflict and the embrace of harmony; and WHEREAS, Love is shared through acts of kindness and goodwill; and WHEREAS, Unity invites all people into the community regardless of background, identity, or differences; and WHEREAS, Respect is shown through empathy, acceptance, and treating others as one wishes to be treated; and WHEREAS, These values reflect the spirit of California, a state that celebrates diversity, inclusion, and creative expression; and WHEREAS, California is home to some of the world’s most iconic EDM festivals, hosted in cities across the state, including the Cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, San Jose, San Bernardino, Bakersfield, Palm Springs, Coachella, and across the North Coast region; and WHEREAS, These festivals not only serve as cultural landmarks, but also generate millions of dollars in economic impact for local communities and the state; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby recognizes the profound cultural, social, and economic impact of EDM on the lives of Californians; and be it further Resolved, That the Legislature hereby declares the month of June 2026 as Electronic Dance Music Month; and be it further Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
