HR10 - Honoring Adán Medrano for his outstanding contributions as a chef, author, and documentary filmmaker.

      H.R. No. 10       R E S O L U T I O N          WHEREAS, Adán Medrano has distinguished himself as a chef,   author, and documentary filmmaker specializing in the indigenous   foods of Texas and the Americas; and          WHEREAS, During long careers in broadcast journalism and   philanthropy, Mr. Medrano traveled widely and developed a deep   appreciation for the importance of food traditions to cultural   stability and sustainability; that became his focus, and he gained   experience as a chef in Houston and Belgium and graduated from the   Culinary Institute of America in 2010; he is known for coining the   term "Texas Mexican" to describe the cuisine he grew up with in San   Antonio, and The New York Times featured his cooking in a food   section cover story, "Don't Call It Tex-Mex!"; and          WHEREAS, Mr. Medrano has authored two award-winning   cookbooks, Truly Texas Mexican: A Native Culinary Heritage in   Recipes and Don't Count the Tortillas: The Art of Texas Mexican   Cooking ; published by Texas Tech University Press, they highlight   recipes used in many Mexican-Texan-American homes, rather than the   Tex-Mex cuisine developed in commercial kitchens; both are now part   of The University of Texas at San Antonio's renowned Mexican   Cookbook Collection, and UTSA Libraries Special Collections houses   his archival papers; and          WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin,   Mr. Medrano earned his master's degree in radio-television-film;   in the 1970s, he founded the trailblazing San Antonio CineFestival,   and he has long been active in television, film, and such   organizations as the Texas Commission on the Arts, the National   Endowment for the Arts, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; he is   the executive producer and writer of the 2021 film Truly Texas   Mexican , which won Best Documentary at the New York Independent   Cinema Awards; in addition, he has lectured about food and culture   in academic settings, including Colorado College, the Culinary   Institute of America, and Northeastern University, and showcased   his recipes at restaurants and professional gatherings; and          WHEREAS, Through his wide-ranging endeavors, Adán Medrano   has raised awareness of a rich cultural heritage, delighting and   enlightening innumerable people in Texas and beyond; now,   therefore, be it          RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas   Legislature hereby honor Adán Medrano for his outstanding   contributions as a chef, author, and documentary filmmaker and   extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it   further          RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be   prepared for Mr. Medrano as an expression of high regard by the   Texas House of Representatives.     Morales of Harris     ______________________________   Speaker of the House                 I certify that H.R.
