  89R14692 LRM-F     By: Morgan H.B. No. 4471       A BILL TO BE ENTITLED   AN ACT   relating to the appointment of a signature verification committee   in certain counties.          BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:          SECTION 1.  Section 87.027, Election Code, is amended by   amending Subsection (a-1) and adding Subsection (a-2) to read as   follows:          (a-1)  A signature verification committee shall be appointed   in the general election for state and county officers on submission   to the early voting clerk of a written request for the committee   by :                 (1)     for a county with a population of less than   600,000, at least 15 registered voters of the county ; or                   (2)     for a county with a population of 600,000 or more,   at least 250 registered voters of the county .           (a-2)  A  [ The ] request submitted under Subsection (a-1) must   be submitted not later than the preceding October 1, and a request   submitted by mail is considered to be submitted at the time of its   receipt by the clerk.          SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
