  89R9291 CS-D     By: Harrison H.B. No. 2572       A BILL TO BE ENTITLED   AN ACT   relating to the authority of a public library to financially   support the American Library Association.          BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:          SECTION 1.  Chapter 441, Government Code, is amended by   adding Subchapter Z to read as follows:   SUBCHAPTER Z. MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS AFFECTING LIBRARIES           Sec.   441.901.     PROHIBITION AGAINST JOINING OR FINANCIALLY   SUPPORTING AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION. (a)   In this section,   "public library" has the meaning assigned by Section 441.122.           (b)     A public library, including a public school library, may   not use public money to:                 (1)     become a member of the American Library   Association;                 (2)     attend or participate in a training, conference,   or other event sponsored or held by that association; or                 (3)     otherwise financially support that association,   either directly or indirectly.          SECTION 2.  Section 441.901, Government Code, as added by   this Act, applies only to the expenditure of public funds made on or   after the effective date of this Act, other than funds required to   be spent under a contract entered into before the effective date of   this Act.          SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
