  89R482 CXP-D     By: Leo Wilson H.B. No. 629       A BILL TO BE ENTITLED   AN ACT   relating to advanced placement courses that may be offered by a   school district.          BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:          SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is   amended by adding Section 28.0091 to read as follows:           Sec.   28.0091.     ADVANCED PLACEMENT COURSE STANDARDS.   (a)   A   school district may offer an advanced placement course only if the   course complies with:                 (1)  the school laws of this state; and                 (2)     the essential knowledge and skills adopted by the   State Board of Education for the applicable subject area.           (b)     The State Board of Education shall review each advanced   placement course offered by a school district to ensure compliance   with this section.          SECTION 2.  Section 28.023, Education Code, is amended by   adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows:           (a-1)     For purposes of this section, a board of trustees may   approve only an advanced placement examination that is for an   advanced placement course offered in accordance with Section   28.0091.          SECTION 3.  This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026   school year.          SECTION 4.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives   a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as   provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this   Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this   Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
