Existing law establishes the Department of Transportation and requires it to improve and maintain the state highways, as provided. This bill would require the department to provide written notice of certain construction or maintenance projects within the right-of-way of a state highway in a county with a population of 250,000 60,000 people of or fewer to a person who resides in, or a business that is located within, 10 5 miles of the project limits, as specified. Section 125.5 is added to the Streets and Highways Code, to read: 125.5. (a) For purposes of this section, the following definitions apply: (1) “Affected resident” means a person who resides in, or a business that is located within, 10 five miles of the project limits. limits, as determined by the department.
