Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 1 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2 SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3 This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Chaplains Memorial 4 Preservation Act’’. 5 SEC. 2. PRESERVATION OF MEMORIALS TO CHAPLAINS ON 6 CHAPLAINS HILL AT ARLINGTON NATIONAL 7 CEMETERY. 8 (a) UPDATES TO MEMORIALS.—The National Con- 9 ference on Ministry to the Armed Forces, or any successor 10 VerDate Sep 11 2014 00:47 Jun 12, 2021 Jkt 019200 PO 00000 Frm 00001 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\S1850.IS S1850 kjohnson on DSK79L0C42PROD with BILLS 2 •S 1850 IS organization recognized in law for purposes of this Act, 1 may, at no cost to the Federal Government— 2 (1)(A) update the memorial to Protestant chap- 3 lains located in Arlington National Cemetery, Vir- 4 ginia, with a granite, marble, or other stone base to 5 host the bronze plaque of the memorial; 6 (B) add an additional plaque to such base that 7 includes the name of each chaplain, verified as de- 8 scribed in subsection (b), who died while on active 9 duty since the original memorial was placed; and 10 (C) make such other updates and corrections to 11 the memorial as may from time to time be needed 12 as determined by the National Conference on Min- 13 istry to the Armed Forces or such successor organi- 14 zation; and 15 (2) make such updates and corrections to the 16 memorial to Catholic chaplains and the memorial to 17 Jewish chaplains located in Arlington National Cem- 18 etery as may from time to time be needed as deter- 19 mined by the National Conference on Ministry to the 20 Armed Forces or such successor organization. 21 (b) VERIFICATION OF NAMES.—The National Con- 22 ference on Ministry to the Armed Forces, or any successor 23 organization recognized in law for purposes of this Act, 24 may verify with the Chief of Chaplains of the Army, the 25 VerDate Sep 11 2014 00:47 Jun 12, 2021 Jkt 019200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\S1850.IS S1850 kjohnson on DSK79L0C42PROD with BILLS 3 •S 1850 IS Chief of Chaplains of the Navy, the Chief of Chaplains 1 for the Air Force and the Space Force, and such agencies 2 of the Department of Defense as the Secretary of the 3 Army considers appropriate, the names of chaplains for 4 memorialization in Arlington National Cemetery. 5 (c) RULE OF CONSTRUCTION.—Nothing in this Act 6 may be construed as authorizing the expansion of any 7 monument or memorial that is located in Arlington Na- 8 tional Cemetery as of the date of the enactment of this 9 Act. 10 Æ VerDate Sep 11 2014 00:47 Jun 12, 2021 Jkt 019200 PO 00000 Frm 00003 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6301 E:\BILLS\S1850.IS S1850 kjohnson on DSK79L0C42PROD with BILLS
